My radio career began in 1983. Nothing glamorous. I got the job doing overnights spinning records of beautiful music from the likes of 101 Strings and Mantovani within a cinder block building in the middle of a cow pasture in Shafter, CA., home to the studios of KYLD-FM. Since then I’ve enjoyed playing Jazz, Top 40, Rock and Classic rock on stations between Bakersfield and Fresno. But I have to say that of all the genres it’s Classic Rock and its fans that keeps me going.
In 2006 I was asked to join the KTYD team and have had a blast ever since. At the time I was hired I hit the air as Don Salcedo, but that changed when Keith Royer, my boss at the time, suggested I make the change to Santa Barbara Don as every time I said my first name it reminded him of the Dons of Santa Barbara High School and it stuck with me. Shout out to SBHS!
