DAWG provides a safe and loving environment for dogs awaiting permanent adoption, and promotes their adoption through outreach programs in the Santa Barbara community.
Most of the dogs in our care come from Santa Barbara county shelters. Our primary goal is to reduce the rate of euthanasia in the county shelters by providing the medical care and training many dogs need for a second chance at life.
Since DAWG’s inception in 1991, we have worked hard to bring out the best in our dogs, improving their quality of life during their stay at the shelter, and placing healthy, well-behaved dogs back into the community.
Dog of the Week
(Bonnie Baker Photo)
He's ready for his debut for the movie screen! Sandy is our cream colored version of Dorothy's Toto from the Wizard of Oz. He is a 2 yr old neutered male Cairn terrier mix of 13 lbs. He is very timid, and will need a home that is loving, patient, and stern with him. His fear and need for protection of his owner, was the reason his previous home did not keep him forever. But his previous mother said he was affectionate, and very loyal. He is smart, happy, curious and calm; a great combination. Sandy is looking for his forever home or a foster home, who will teach him that he does not need to protect his person, but rather welcome everyone into his circle of friends. If you think you could be Sandy's new forever home please contact DAWG at 805-681-0561.
